Goodbye and Hello; Hello and Goodbye

On our way out of Maids and a little BBQ in Darby's garden.

Punting (here with Aline and Brady) and saying farewell to Pink Thunderbird

First and foremost, apologies for the extreme late-ness of this final blog post. I have no excuse considering I have just been relaxing at home since my return, but perhaps that is also my excuse, I have just been relaxing and have tried to be as removed from my computer as possible. I had enough of my dear little macbook after the writing of my dissertation.

My last five days in Cambridge was spent packing up, finishing and handing in my dissertation, getting sick, punting with YSA's, and watching a lot of world cup. On my last day we barbecued at Darby's house with Jon, Chloe and Sam, and along with some delicious BBQ, we grilled halloumi cheese which I highly recommend if any of you have not tried it. Incredible.

So, overall my departure was mellow. No big farewells, no big parties, just some quality time with friends and of course a lot of work to do to clear out of Maid's for good. Among other things, I also had to return Pink Thunderbird to her rightful owners (Kina and Simon who were so generous to loan her for the year), and that was a tough separation. How loyal she has been.

Chloe and I split a cab to heathrow on the day we left, and that in itself is a short story to tell. We had a young cab driver who was delightfully quintessentially British and it was the perfect way to finish off our year in England. It was like a mini road trip. We stopped at the gas station for gum, drinks and treats, and took the back roads (Allegedly much faster), so he could get us to both Terminals on time. We had a lot of luggage and a lot of excitement... he was definitely a trooper.

And so my year ended in England. It went by in such a flash it all feels like a dream now (especially when I look back at all the photos and all that has happened between the beginning and now).

It is only appropriate that I now retire this blog as Ingrid is no longer in England. Since I am off to law school in a month, and the happenings of law school are relatively predictable and perhaps slightly boring (who wants to read about torts and contracts?), I do not think I will continue in the blogosphere at this time.

But I am still connected and hope that you all keep in touch whether through email, telephone, snail mail or (and please use this as last resort) facebook.

Thank you to all of you readers who have faithfully stayed with me through the year and followed the on-goings of my adventures in England.

xx
